Passing of Life Member – Harold “Ray” Phipps

It is with deep sympathy that the Deale Volunteer Fire Department announces the death of Harold “Ray” Phipps on February 3, 2019. Ray was a Life member of the Deale Volunteer Fire Department, and passed Assistant Chief. Passing of Ladies Auxiliary Member Jill Mckenzie

The Deale VFD & RS and Ladies Auxiliary is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Life Member Jill Mckenzie. Jill McKenzie was an active and life member of the Deale Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Jill was active in the Ladies Auxiliary to the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary.  She served as President from 1977-1978.  She was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2003. ...

Passing of Life Member – Leonard King

The Deale VFD&RS is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Life Member Leonard King,r S.. Leonard King served the Deale Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years, holding positions as Treasurer, President and Lieutenant. Mr. Leonard T. King, Sr., of Deale, Maryland, and formerly of Damascus, Maryland, died Thursday, February 1, at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Maryland, with friends and family by his side. Born April 21, 1942, in Clarksburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Olivia King. He is survived by three children, Lisa Lewis, of Charlestown, West Virginia, Kelly King of Deale, Maryland, and Leonard T. King, Jr., of Frederick, Maryland, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Upon graduation from Damascus High School, he attended the University of Maryland in their fire engineering curriculum before taking a job as a Fire Prevention Officer with Montgomery County, Maryland. He received his Associate of Arts Degree in Fire Science from Montgomery College. He was the President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (1985-1986), President of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association (1990-1991) and served on the Board of Directors for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (2003-2015). Passing of Charter Member Bernard Calvin Phipps

It is with deepest regrets that the Officers and the Members of the Deale Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad announce the passing of Mr. Bernard Calvin Phipps. Bernard Calvin Phipps, a lifelong resident of Deale, passed away July 2, 2016 surrounded by his family. The only child of Bernard Lucius “Bud” and Lena Phipps was born September 20, 1924 at the Phipps Family Homestead. He attended Deale School and Southern High School. Calvin served in the United States Marine Corps and was a combat veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Nutwell Marshall in 1946 and they were married for over 50 years. Calvin spent many years working as a waterman, proprietor of Phipps Marine Railway and as a Marine Surveyor. He and his wife also owned Phipps LTD Antiques. He was a faithful member of Faith Assembly of God, previously Deale Assembly of God for more than 60 years where he served on the Board of Directors, as Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Leader. Passing of Robert “Spot” Wilkerson

It is with deep sympathy that the Deale Volunteer Fire Department announces the death of Robert Glenn Wilkerson also known as “Spot” or “Bobby” on August 11, 2015. Mr. Wilkerson was a Life member of the Deale Volunteer Fire Department, serving over 65 years for the department. He also held the position of Chaplain most recently. He will be greatly missed and our continued thoughts and prayers go out to the Wilkerson family during this time. It is with deep sympathy that the Deale Volunteer Fire Department announces the death of Virginia Browning on February 28, 2008. Mrs. Browning was a Life member of the Deale VFD and Ladies Auxiliary. Our Condolences to Family & Friends of Jason Coburn

The Deale Volunteer Fire Department would like to give our heart felt condolences to the family and friends of Jason Coburn.  Jason was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident in Pasadena this morning.  Jason was an active member of the Ritchie Volunteer Fire Department in PG County.  He also attended the Anne Arundel County Cadet Program along with several members from Deale and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jason Coburn’s family as well as his girlfriend Mandy. Passing of Mrs. Margaret Whittington

It is with deep sympathy that the Deale Volunteer Fire Department announces the death of Margaret Whittington on October 17, 2006. Mrs. Whittington was a Charter and Life member of the Deale VFD Ladies Auxiliary and served as the first President of the Auxiliary. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Terry and Debbie Whittington and grandson Ryan Whittington. The entire Whittington family are active members of the Department.
